Shout-out of the Week

This week, lgbt-BJU.org would like to give a shout-out to another group of alumni from a Christian college seeking change for LGBTQ students, OneGeorgeFox. George Fox University is a Christian university in Oregon. OneGeorgeFox is an LGBTQ alumni group striving to bring openness and dialogue to the George Fox community. From their website:

“We are George Fox. We are part of this community. We have great friendships here. We spent years studying and learning about ourselves while at George Fox. We also carry the name of our alma mater with us on our resumes, professional bios and publications. Moreover, a place like George Fox should be open to re-examining long-held beliefs, particularly when there are significant numbers within that community who are harmed by existing policies and who hold different beliefs. The George Fox community has always contained LGBTQ students. Our hope is that we can be part of creating change within our community, so that LGBTQ students can come to George Fox to study, to worship and to serve, in a safe and affirming environment.”

We at lgbt-bju.org salute our brothers and sisters of OneGeorgeFox and the amazing work they are doing to reach and support LGBTQ students and alumni.

On March 14, OneGeorgeFox will host Grammy-nominated singer Jennifer Knapp and Executive Director of the Gay Christian Network Justin Lee as they speak on faith and sexuality from an affirming Christian perspective. Our thoughts, prayers, and best wishes are with them for the success of this launch event and all those who will attend. Much gratitude and respect from lgbt-BJU.org as you enter this new phase of public activism!
