Why we do what we do…

This week, we read a recent Rolling Stone article with horror.

“Suicide rates among gay and lesbian kids are frighteningly high, with attempt rates four times that of their straight counterparts; studies show that one-third of all gay youth have attempted suicide at some point (versus 13 percent of hetero kids), and that internalized homophobia contributes to suicide risk.”

Since many of us here at lgbt-BJU.org have been in precisely this situation, we are particularly concerned to offer the message that homosexual orientation is a part of an individual’s makeup, as much as hair color and temperament are. There is no shame in being oneself. There is no reason for any homosexual person to hate him- or herself. We know that God is love. God loves each one of us, gay, straight, bisexual, lesbian, transgender, queer. He loves us all.

If you are struggling to reconcile homosexual attraction with your faith, please reach out. We are here to help you. You are not alone. We understand what you are going through, and we respect your privacy and your struggle. e-mail us at lgbt.bju@gmail.com
